Angela Johnson, Executive Director CHALK

My name is Angela Johnson, I am the Executive Director of CHALK Preschools. I was born and raised in Chicago. I graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and took additional Master’s level classes in Early Childhood. I have worked in the childcare field since 1994 as both a teacher and a director. I am proud to have been with CHALK since its inception in 2004. Everyday I look forward to more wonderful experiences with the families and the staff at CHALK Preschool.

Nicole Brozka, Director Westwood

Hello families of CHALK Westwood!  My name is Nicole Brozka, and I am the Director of CHALK Preschool of Westwood.  I may be a familiar face to some of you because I have been with CHALK for over 5 years now, and I helped open the Venice school in September 2011.  My journey with CHALK actually began in March 2010 in Chicago; I started as a Green Room teacher at Clybourn.  After a year of teaching with the 2 year olds I was offered the position as Assistant Director of Venice!  I couldn’t have been more excited to move to California and open a new school.  After a year and a half I was asked to transfer to Westwood as the Assistant Director, then I moved back to Venice to be the Director!  Now I am back at Westwood as the Director, and I hope to make this an easy transition for everyone!  If you have any questions for me please do not hesitate to ask! Thank you and I look forward to meeting you!

Jen Shpall, Assistant Director Westwood

Hello!  My name is Jen Shpall and I am proud to be an Assistant Director at CHALK of Westwood!  Before administration, I was teaching in the Yellow and Orange Rooms here at Westwood, and for nearly 3 years I also taught at CHALK of Venice, in the Purple Room; I have loved every minute of it!  I am an L.A. native, but I received a Masters Degree in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh.  I am looking forward to bringing both my pedagogical knowledge and my classroom experience to the Administration Team to continue to create consistent, creative and fun learning environments for the children in every classroom.  I look forward to meeting all of the families here at CHALK!

Eleanor Beale, Teacher

Hello CHALK families!  My name is Eleanor Beale, and I am so excited to be joining the Orange Room at Westwood!  I moved to Los Angeles from London, England. I am a qualified teacher with early years’ specialism and have a Bachelors and Masters in Psychology.  After graduating I taught in a school in Swaziland, and then spent a year working in a school for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders; it was these two experiences that led me to undertake my teacher training degree in 2011.  I started working in a large inner city school in London in 2012 and left to move to LA.  I love teaching and seeing the progress the students make!   The smiles on their faces when they have worked hard and are proud of themselves, are priceless!  I love getting to know each child and their family and seeing each student reach their full potential.  I look forward to getting to know every family here at Westwood!

Allie Case, Teacher

Hi CHALK of Westwood families!  My name is Allie Case, and I am elated to be joining the CHALK community.  I’m originally from Seattle, but last year returned to LA from Rome, Italy where I taught pre-K at a private international school; prior to that I taught preschool for two years in Orange County.  I have a passion for early childhood development, and helping the little ones reach their full potential.  My undergraduate degree was in Intercultural Studies and I thrive in the diverse metropolis that is Los Angeles!  I also have my Masters in Teaching, TESOL Certificate and Certificate in Narrative Therapy.  I look forward to nurturing your children with mindfulness, curiosity and imagination!

Krystal Williams, Teacher

Hello CHALK Preschool Families!  My name is Krystal Williams, and I am so happy to be beginning my new adventure as a Yellow Room teacher.  I was born and raised here in Los Angeles, California and attended Humboldt State University where I received my B.A. – Liberal Studies Child Development.  I have taught preschool for over six years in Northern & Southern California and love working with and helping to develop children.  It is my intent to obtain my Masters in Special Education as I continue to grow and be the best educator to your child that I can be.  My goal is to make sure each day your child goes home happy and reaches their highest potential.  I am excited to be a part of the Yellow Room, and I look forward to meeting each of the families that come to our classroom!

Karen Tu, Teacher

Hello CHALK!  My name is Karen Tu, and I am so excited to be here with the families at CHALK!  I first experienced my love for working with children in 2009 when I became a teacher assistant at an early childhood development center while studying at UC Santa Cruz.  After I graduated, in 2012, with a B.A. in Sociology, I decided to continue to pursue my love of teaching and became a Pre-K teacher. I have worked with children and youth ages infant-18 for over 6 years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it!  I know that children are our future and in order to make them successful, we must provide them with a sturdy foundation and the best tools to become strong players in society. I look forward to providing your children with a comfortable & fun learning environment to thrive in!

Jacqueline Nuno, Teacher

Hi CHALK families!  My name is Jacqueline Nuno, and I am very excited to be a part of CHALK Preschool.  I have lived in Los Angeles for most of my life.   I moved back shortly after graduating from UC Santa Cruz in 2014 with a BA in English Language Literature.  I taught high school Spanish for about a year when I realized preschool was my true calling.  I have worked in a preschool setting for 4 years now and I am very excited to bring smiles and fun learning experiences into your children’s lives!

Stephanie Gateklum, Teacher

I am very excited to be a part of the Blue Room family. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California where I attended the University of California at Irvine and received my B.A. in Spanish with a Minor in Education.  For the last year, I have been a floater at the Westwood location where I have come to know and love your children.  Prior to CHALK, I worked with children ages 3-5 as well as youth through various non-profits.  My passion is working with young children, because I strongly believe in the power of early education.  I am excited to embark on this journey of watching your children grow day-to-day, together.

Shea Gasbarri, Teacher

Hello families! My name is Shea Gasbarri and I am so happy to have the opportunity to work with you and your children at CHALK. I am a Southern California native and have spent most of my life moving between the city and the beach. I have settled here in Los Angeles after living in Ventura where I worked as a Lead Teacher and Assistant Director at a private preschool. In 2013, I received my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Studies from CSU Channel Islands. Initially I majored in photography and I continue to photograph as a hobby. It wasn’t until I spontaneously took an education class that I realized my true calling. The class I took on a whim has taken me on a wonderful journey ever since. I can no longer envision a career doing anything else but teaching. I love teaching because it gives me the opportunity to meet and understand different personalities. It brings me joy to have a positive impact in each child’s development. I enjoy working with kids because they have such happy souls. Their thoughtfulness and desire to learn teaches me lessons, as well.

Zelisha Zigler, Teacher

Hello my name is Zelisha Zigler, and I am excited to join the CHALK team as a teacher in the Green Room.  I am from Oakland, California.  I am a CODA (child of deaf parents), and I am fluent in American Sign Language.  I attended California State University of Northridge in the education department where I received my bachelors of art degree in deaf literature.  I was a nanny for over four years throughout college. I also worked at Carousel School as a behavioral aide for children with disabilities and as teacher assistance in preschool.  I love seeing children grow and grasp onto new knowledge to use within their daily lives.  My goal is to encourage a positive and interactive learning experience with hands on approach.  I am honored to help develop and guide your children to reach their fullest potential.

Audrey Guerra, Teacher

Hi! My name is Audrey Guerra, and I am so excited to be teaching at CHALK of Westwood!  I am originally from Cape Girardeau, Missouri and attended college at Saint Louis University where I received a Bachelor’s degree in education. After college I worked as a preschool teacher in Houston, Texas where I had the opportunity to help young children learn and grow every day. Then I moved to Eugene, Oregon where I had the chance to work at Head Start, an early childhood program that specializes in comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement for underprivileged children. I love teaching young children and helping them learn and experience new things daily.  Watching them discover something for the first time is so rewarding.  In my spare time I love to go running, hiking and swimming with my husband and my dog, Lilly.  I am looking forward to meeting all the wonderful families at CHALK.

Megan Emerson, Teacher

Hello CHALK families of Westwood!  I am Megan Emerson, and I am currently the Purple Room teacher and floater.  I have a bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Northridge. Throughout my high school and college years I volunteered as an after school attendant for 10 years at a private school. Then, with my passion for dance, I worked as a high school dance team coach and instructor to grades kinder-8th for 2 years.  From there, I volunteered at Mattel’s Children Hospital UCLA.  As hospitals can be confusing and frightening for children, in their Child Life program I helped ease fears by familiarizing young children, adolescents and their families with the hospital experience. From there I moved to Illinois for a year working at a daycare, starting my career as a Lead Preschool teacher.  Now I am at CHALK Preschool, excited to incorporate all the knowledge I have gained and ready to guide the children of CHALK to their highest potential.

Children will experience moments of awe and wonder every day at CHALK Preschool…
Shouldn’t you consider CHALK today?
