Angela Johnson, Executive Director CHALK
My name is Angela Johnson, I am the Executive Director of CHALK Preschools. I was born and raised in Chicago. I graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and took additional Master’s level classes in Early Childhood. I have worked in the childcare field since 1994 as both a teacher and a director. I am proud to have been with CHALK since its inception in 2004. Everyday I look forward to more wonderful experiences with the families and the staff at CHALK Preschool.
Katie Seifert, Director Venice
Hello there! My name is Katie Seifert and I am the Director here at CHALK of Venice. Several years ago I started off at our Westwood location teaching in the Blue Room. From there, I moved on to teaching Pre-K in the Orange Room where I helped the children get prepared for kindergarten! I was then given the opportunity to take on an administrative position as the assistant director for two years at our Venice location and I have been here ever since! I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with my degree in liberal studies, where I also received my multiple subject teaching credential. I have always had a passion for working with children and love hearing the insights they have to share. Each day brings something new and exciting and I am thankful to work with such amazing students and their wonderful families!
Sylvia Ruiz, Assistant Director Venice
Hello CHALK Venice families! My name is Sylvia Ruiz and I am the Assistant Director here at CHALK of Venice. I have been with CHALK for three years and have loved every minute of it! I started as a teacher in the Yellow Room here at Venice for a year and was a Yellow and Purple Room teacher at CHALK of Manhattan Beach the last two years. I am a native to gorgeous Los Angeles and live in the “Bubble” of the South Bay. I attended Loyola Marymount University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with a focus on Special Education. Since college, I have worked with children in elementary, middle school and high school settings, exploring the fields of Special Education and Early Childhood Education. I have been trained in the basics of Applied Behavioral Analysis and have worked with children with varying disabilities. Through these experiences, I have found my true passion for working with the little ones. I am very excited to return to Venice and be a part of the administrative team and work with all of the amazing families and children!
Julie Sachs, Teacher
Hello CHALK families! My name is Julie Sachs and I am excited to be teaching in the Orange Room this year. I was born in Chicago and raised in sunny California. I have been a musician since 5 years old and graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film Scoring. Since high school, I have had the privilege of working with children of all ages in various settings, allowing me to discover my passion for teaching. I returned to school to pursue my Early Childhood Education credential from Pierce College and have been teaching since 2012. By connecting every day with my students through teachable moments, I enjoy finding something unique and special about them. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, writing music, and spending time with my family. I am excited to join the CHALK team and am looking forward to the journey we will have together this year!
Shaylynne Troester , Teacher
Hello CHALK of Venice Families! My name is Shaylynne Troester, (or as the kids know me, Ms. Shay). I am originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. I attended Southern Utah University where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Life and Human Development with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development. After moving to Los Angeles, I spent time learning and growing with Toddlers. It was a rich experience, but I am so excited for my new adventure in Orange Room here at CHALK Preschool! I love working with children! Each day holds so many new opportunities for development and growth in their lives, and my own. They are life’s greatest work and I feel it a privilege to get to experience it every day. In my free time I enjoy exploring the city, going to the beach, finding cute coffee shops, and reading. I can’t wait to see where this adventure leads and to spend time getting to know the amazing children and families of CHALK Preschool, Venice!
Becky Regoli, Teacher
Ciao, CHALK families! My name is Rebecca but everyone calls me Becky! I am thrilled to be a Purple Room teacher at CHALK-Venice! I was born and raised Turin, Italy as a bilingual and bi-cultural child. After graduating high school, I moved to the United States to attend Hendrix College in Conway, Arizona, where I earned my BA in English Literary Studies with a minor in French. I then moved to Sonoma, CA, where I worked as a head teacher in the 3-year-old classroom at a local preschool. A year later I decided to move down to LA to work as a teacher at CHALK Venice and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be here! I look forward to getting to know all the wonderful Purple Room families and kiddos!
Cindy Salaues, Teacher
Hello families of CHALK! My name is Cindy Salaues and I am so excited to be a teacher in the Purple Room! I am originally from Santa Clarita, CA. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Northridge and have been working with children for many years now! I worked in the Saugus Union School District for 8 years and then transitioned to the Santa Monica Malibu School District in 2014. I love to laugh, go to the beach, and hang out with friends and family. I am thrilled to be a part of the CHALK Venice team and I can’t wait to get to know all of you and your fabulous children in the Purple Room!
Zoe Rudnick, Teacher
Hello! My name is Zoe Rudnick and I am a teacher in the Yellow Room! I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and graduated from University of Denver where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, with a major of Hotel, Restaurant Management. I worked in the hospitality industry for 5 years. Soon after, I started volunteering at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where I discovered my passion for working with children! After studying Early Childhood Education at Santa Monica Community College, I spent some time at Mar Vista Montessori in the infant/toddler classroom. I am so excited to be part of the CHALK Venice team and the Yellow Room, and I can’t wait to meet all of you!
Kimberly North, Teacher
Hello there! My name is Kimberly North, but feel free to call me Ms. Kim! I was born and raised in the small town of Columbia City, Indiana. I graduated from Purdue University in May 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Human Services. After working as a social worker for almost two years, I decided to move to beautiful and sunny Los Angeles in late November 2016. I have worked with children six weeks old to 18 years old in various settings for the past several years. Empowering and educating youth has always been my passion. I am beyond excited to be a part of the CHALK Venice team, and I cannot wait to meet each and every one of you!
Samantha Massengale, Teacher
Hello CHALK families! I am Samantha Massengale and I am so happy to be a part of the CHALK Venice team. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and I obtained my B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from Pacific Oaks College School of Education in Pasadena, Ca. I am currently working on my M.A. Degree in Human Development and I have more than 5 years experience working with children. I find working with young children incredibly rewarding and I am very passionate about the work (or play) that goes on in the classroom. I feel very strongly that part of my job is to prepare and protect the youth and I take great pride in doing so. I like to invest my free time in photography, reading, cooking and spending time with my family.

Hello! My name is Karen Chazanovsky and I am so excited to be a Green Room teacher! I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Adolescent Development. My mother was the owner of a daycare center for 20 years, which gave me the opportunity to work in a preschool setting starting at a young age. I have always had a passion for working with children and have spent several years teaching toddlers at various preschools in the Greater Los Angeles area! My favorite part about with children is that each day brings something new and exciting! I look forward to learning and growing with your children and can’t wait for all the adventures we will go on together!

Hello CHALK Families! My name is Erika Castillo and I am so excited to be a part of the CHALK Venice team. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare and Education from University of California Berkeley. After returning to Los Angeles, I went back to college to pursue my Child Development Teaching credential to continue working in Early Childhood Education. I love working with children because each day is different and the children are always learning and experiencing something new. As an educator, it is rewarding and exciting to be a part of their learning experience. Not only do the children learn from the teachers, the teachers learn from the children as well. I am looking forward to getting to know all the families at CHALK Venice!
