Kara Lewis, Director Pasadena
Hello CHALK families! My name is Kara Lewis and I am one of the Director’s of our Pasadena location. I have been a part of the CHALK family since January of 2014 and have been working with children between the ages of 6 months to 6 years old since 2010. I graduated from CSU Los Angeles with a degree in Urban Learning and have always had a passion of working with young children. Prior to my administrative position, I was a teacher in the Blue Room at our Venice location and then had the amazing opportunity to take on the role as Assistant Director at our Westwood location. I am so excited to bring the magic of CHALK to the beautiful city of Pasadena, and I look forward to meeting all of the wonderful families!
Nelly Rios, Assistant Director Pasadena
Hello CHALK Families! My name is Nelly Rios and I have been working for Bright Horizons since 2001. My journey began as a young field work student while I earned my degree in child development from Cal State Northridge. I enjoy working with families and watching their children learn and grow every day. I have three children of my own and understand the rewards and challenges of being a parent. I too, have had many sleepless nights! On my spare time I enjoy a good Disney day with my family. We are annual pass holders and we love to spend time together at Disneyland. Kambria Jackson, Teacher
Hi, my name is Kambria Jackson. I am very excited and proud to be a part of the Pasadena team. As an early educator with a background in special education, I am committed to providing the highest quality preschool experience for all of the wonderful children here at CHALK. I have worked with young children for the past eleven years, from two years old through pre-kindergarten, including two years as a behavioral therapist working with children on the spectrum. For the past three years I have been a preschool teacher at both CHALK Preschool of Venice and KinderCare Learning Center in Yucaipa. I want to thank you for giving me the privilege of providing your child with the tools they need to learn and grow. I look forward to meeting all of the families at CHALK!
Melissa Gamboa, Teacher
Hello families! My name is Melissa Gamboa and I am very excited to be joining CHALK Preschool! I attended California State University, Northridge and received my Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies, as well as my Multi-Subject teaching credential. While I was attending college, I worked as a teacher’s assistant at an elementary school and worked with students in preschool through fifth grade. After graduating, I was a substitute teacher with LAUSD, leading me to the wonderful opportunity of teaching first and second grade. I have always enjoyed working with children of all ages, and my goal is to inspire a love of learning, providing them with the skills to become the best version of themselves. I look forward to meeting all of the CHALK families!
Ria Neunuebel, Teacher
Hello all, my name is Ria Neunuebel and I was born and raised in Glendale, California. I graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a Bachelor’s in Family Life Education. I have been with CHALK for nearly 3 years now and I am very proud to be a part of the CHALK team. Over my years at CHALK of Venice I worked as a floater and an Orange Room teacher. Being at CHALK has truly been an incredible experience, from the wonderful adventures in the classroom to the great conversations with families. With our new Pasadena location opening, I will now have the pleasure of teaching the Blue Room, and it is my goal to make their experience here at CHALK an adventure they will not forget. Prior to working with CHALK I worked with low-income families at a Montessori preschool in Burbank. I am currently working on my Master’s in Library and Information Science. I am ecstatic for this opportunity to be teaching your little ones and I cannot wait to meet each and every one of them!
Alison Mahlebashian, Teacher
Hello CHALK of Pasadena families. My name is Alison Mahlebashian, and I am so excited to be joining the Orange Room. I have lived in sunny southern California my entire life. I graduated with a BA in Communicative Disorders in the summer of 2016 from California State University, Los Angeles. I previously worked as an assistant preschool teacher for two years and have experience with applied behavioral therapy with children on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have also had the opportunity to provide assistance to little ones with cerebral palsy to late talkers. I believe education is extremely important and I have a strong love and passion for teaching. I adore seeing my students come to school with a smile on their face and eager to learn. I look forward to meeting all the families and providing a classroom full of imagination and creativity for your children to blossom into their greatest potential
Nicole Rodriguez, Teacher
Hello all, my name is Nicole Rodriguez and I was born and raised in Burbank, California. I graduated from Cal State University Northridge with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and took additional courses in Early Childhood Development. I have been with CHALK for over 2 years now and I am very proud to be a part of the CHALK team. Over my 2 years at CHALK of Westwood I worked as a floater and a Purple Room teacher and then had the amazing privilege of teaching in the Blue Room. Being at CHALK has truly been an incredible experience, from the wonderful adventures in the classroom with the Kiddos to the great conversations with all of our wonderful families. With our new Pasadena location opening I will now have the treat of teaching the Yellow Room and it is my goal to make their experience here at CHALK an adventure they will not forget. Prior to working with CHALK I worked with LAUSD at the elementary school and preschool level and I am currently aspiring towards my masters in Educational Psychology. I am ecstatic for this opportunity to be teaching your little ones and I cannot wait to meet each and every one of them!
Diana Cruz, Teacher
Hello! My name is Diana Cruz, and it is with great pleasure that I join the CHALK Preschool team. I went to Cal Poly Pomona, where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies. It has always been my dream to work with children, watching them flourish is most fulfilling for me as their teacher! I have taught in Early Childhood Education for four years and look forward for the many years to come in this rewarding career. My husband and I recently moved back to Los Angeles, from Kansas City. I couldn’t be happier to be back in my hometown, and to be a part of such an amazing school, it is going to be a great year in the Yellow Room!
Cindy Ly, Teacher
Hello, my name is Cindy Ly and I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development from California State University, Los Angeles with a specialization in Child Life. I have been working with children of all ages since I was in high school. I started working as a tutor at a tutorial program and then became a tutor and site-coordinator at an elementary school during college. I have also volunteered at a children’s hospital where I worked with hospitalized children. After I graduated in 2012, I started working at a childcare center as a lead teacher. I am now continuing my journey at CHALK Preschool as a Green Room teacher. I am also volunteering at a hospital where I am helping the elderly and I am looking forward to going back to school to further my education. I enjoy teaching young children and helping them discover a love for learning and achieve developmental milestones.

Hello CHALK Preschool Families! My name is Melissa M. Mitchell. Words cannot explain how excited I am to be a part of the CHALK family and a teacher in the Green Room. I graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor’s in Sociology and with an A.A. in Social Behavior Sciences. I have experience working with children from all ages. I have tutored children with ADHD, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I am also trained and have experience with ABA, applied behavioral therapy with children on the autism spectrum. I have always enjoyed working with children. My goal is help your child reach the next level with confidence, as I do believe every child should have the equal opportunity to learn. I look forward to meeting all of the CHALK families, especially my Green Room kiddos!
Racheal Townsend, Teacher
Hello my name is Racheal Townsend. I was born and raised in the lovely city of Pasadena. I graduated from California State University, Northridge with my Bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development in 2014. After graduating, I worked at a preschool as an inclusion assistant with kids with autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. I worked for Pasadena Unified School District for three years working with kids with special needs and now I am excited to be here at CHALK Preschool as a floater. I look forward to working in all of our classrooms and meeting you and all of the kiddos!
